Promoting WADAIKO
WADAIKO is a traditional Japanese drumming club at Rochester Institute of Technology. The mission of the club is to share the art of taiko and raise interest in both Japanese culture and music. The purpose of this video is to introduce the history of WADAIKO and answer some common questions people have about the group.
Animatic
For this animatic, I needed to get a good sense of the timing as the background drumming and voice over had to work together. The voice over and finger tapping (the drumming) were all recorded in my tiny room with my phone before going into a recording booth.
Recording the Soundtrack
I was able to borrow drums from our club for a few hours to record the background soundtrack. I chose to play Matsuri, a festival song performed by many taiko groups. The song is all about celebration and community, which is a perfect fit for this video.
